April 30th, 2010 - Ok, I know I'm a bit late to the Korg Monotron party. I read about it before but so much came out the release week that I never got to post about it. The video below shows what the Korg Monotron can do, and frankly it's amazing for an $85 pocket analog synthesizer. The only thing that it can even be remotely compared to is the SX-150 that I have, and even though I've never ... Read More

November 18th, 2009 - Some of you may have read my irritated Twitter posts about the Korg NanoPad I bought this summer. Granted, most of those were about the terrible seller I got it from and Korg's inability to help me, but the fact of the matter is that if the NanoPad had not been faulty, I wouldn't have had to jump through any of those hoops.
The NanoPad only triggers 2 out of the 12 pads, and even ... Read More

February 11th, 2009 - I've posted about Korg's Nano Series before however, as interested as I am in portable gear, I've never found myself considering the purchase of a NanoKONTROL. Just like Cubase's new free iPhone software that turns your shiny Apple product into an external transport, the Korg NanoKontrol allows you to have a physical transport outside your DAW.
I like to draw automation into my DAW, rather than fiddle with faders and knobs, so it's hard for me ... Read More

January 31st, 2009 - You might have read the reviews of the Korg Nano series online. You might have heard that they were flimsy, and that the NanoKeys lack proper tactile feel. You might wonder why I keep reporting on them then. The truth is that, as someone who is based around a laptop, I love the idea of a portable set up. Being able to make music anywhere, when the mood strikes, is powerful for someone like me who gets inspiration ... Read More

December 17th, 2008 - My new hero jetdaisuke who last showed us how to turn our Nintendo DS Lite into a talkbox via the Korg DS-10 and a straw, has returned with another video featuring another delicious Korg product, the microKORG XL. The microKORG XL is an update to the classic microKORG and both have the signature microphone for all-night vocoding sessions. 90's west coast hip hop here I come! It looks like an impressive piece of kit. There are lots of ... Read More

December 10th, 2008 - Ok, this is about the best thing I've ever heard coming out of a DS-10, which is saying a lot because people have created some great music with it. YouTube user JetDaisuke has figured out how to turn the DS-10 into a talkbox with nothing but a straw. This man has officially become the MacGyver of the DS-lite music scene. Watch the video; it sounds awesome. I have to try this.

November 9th, 2008 - It seems like only yesterday that I was writing about the Korg Nano series. If you recall, the Korg Nano series was designed to look great in front of your white Macbook. But how were you going to coordinate if you had a black Macbook?
Well worry no more. Korg has released the Nano series in black. Still, if you are fortunate enough to have the new Macbook or MBPro, or have an older MBPro, you ... Read More

August 20th, 2008 - Until now the Korg DS-10 cartridge, a synthesizer software sold by Korg for the Nintendo DS, was only available for purchase in Japan. As such, music enthusiasts in North America who were interested in getting their hands on it, were relegated to either buying an overseas version, or hacking their Nintendo DS and downloading an illegal copy. Guess which choice most people made. With the obvious market for the DS-10 in North America, Korg has ... Read More

June 14th, 2008 - Seeing as we discussed MIDI this week, here are some new MIDI controllers from Korg. Models include a keyboard controller, a drum pad, and a small mix pad. I'm looking forward to reviews regarding the quality and feeling of the units but they look very promising. These would be great for mobile songwriting on the laptop. No mention of price or release date.

June 7th, 2008 - The Nintendo DS Lite is a great tool for electronic musicians. Multitudes of people use home-brew applications to create music on the go; I personally use Electroplankton to get cool sounds. Think about it, the DS is a perfect size to carry around. What better way to whet your appetite for music on-the-go?
Now Korg has adapted their MS-10 synthesizer to the DS platform as the Korg DS-10. You use your touchscreen to manipulate patterns and ... Read More
