May 11th, 2010 – Today I was able to meet up with David Chick of the “Inside Home Recording” podcast (Hi David!). One of the things we talked about was how to get a music job for film. He told me that one of the questions he gets asked a lot, is how to get film composing gigs. David’s advice is to just get out there and do it, even if you have to work for free for the first while. This is great advice and I thought I’d post about it.

While some are very confident about their music, many of us are fairly sensitive about it, especially when starting out. We don’t want to be criticized and have our music out there for everyone to judge unless it’s absolutely perfect. This can cause paralysis. If you sit around waiting to write for the best project, or write the best song, it’s never going to come. You need to practice and get your name out there!

  1. That music is really incredible, and I’m not even into that type of music. I enjoy listening to it!
