April 30th, 2010 – Ok, I know I’m a bit late to the Korg Monotron party. I read about it before but so much came out the release week that I never got to post about it. The video below shows what the Korg Monotron can do, and frankly it’s amazing for an $85 pocket analog synthesizer. The only thing that it can even be remotely compared to is the SX-150 that I have, and even though I’ve never touched a Monotron, I can tell you that it will definitely be more beefy than the SX-150 and its cardboard back cover.
Apparently the Monotron uses the same VCF’s as their legendary MS-10 and MS-20 synths, which is amazing in such a small package. It also has a nifty rate knob that houses an LED that blinks the rate so you have visual feedback. The ribbon controller (the thing that looks like a smooth painted keyboard) allows for nice slides and, as the video below demonstrates, awesome synth lines can be constructed. I love that Korg released such a cool little synth like this. I’ll have to get one to review.
