March 1st, 2010 – It’s March 1st, and I don’t have an album done for the RPM Challenge. As for the main task of writing an album’s worth of material in 28 days, I failed completely. My main problem was that almost every song I wrote was for a different genre, probably a remnant from my days working in a song factory. Not only did this mean that there were never enough songs to complete a cohesive album, but most of the songs I wrote didn’t even work with me as the artist, and I didn’t have enough time to find appropriate artists to record them with.
However, as massively as I failed the RPM Challenge, this month was perhaps one of my most prolific. Even though I didn’t get a solo album released, I have a couple EPs for close friends that I’m producing, and a few work-for-hire pieces that may get to see the light of day. Compared to my musical productivity in the last couple of years, that’s a huge step forward. This week, I got to speak with a producer/songwriter that has worked with some pretty big names, and it inspired me to keep the momentum going. Big shout outs to Double Dragon Productions if you’re reading this!

Well, i definitely wouldn’t count that as a fail! The great thing about the RPM challenge is that you’ll always have something at the end of it… maybe just the husk of one good song, or a lesson learned…
