March 20th, 2010 – It’s funny how stuff falls together some times. Lately, my friends have been going nuts for Robot Unicorn Attack. It’s an online flash game created by Adult Swim, and it’s pointless and therefore hilarious. You are a robot unicorn, and there are only two options for controls: jump and dash. You are automatically running, and you basically have to try not die; that’s it.

What really got me about the game was that the soundtrack is Erasure’s Always, played on loop. Why that song? I have no idea, but it makes the whole game so ridiculous that it’s gut-bustingly funny.

A couple days ago, Matt Musick tipped me off to a Motherboard.TV video on Vince Clarke, the main man behind Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and, coincidentally, Erasure. In the video, you get to see Clarke’s studio which looks more like a synthesizer museum housed in a fancy wooden cabin. It’s a very cool look at the man and his gear. Now I wonder if he’s actually played Robot Unicorn Attack.
