January 8th, 2010 – Earlier this year, I suggested that a great way to market your songs as an independent artist would be to get them into video games, specifically targeting Electronic Arts’ Rockband series. Well shortly after that, Electronic Arts spread the word that a marketplace that would allow you to create MIDI for, animate, and sell your own songs, was in the works. Recently, EA released the tools to make that happen.
Downloading Reaper as a DAW, special Rockband plugins for Reaper, and MAGMA for transferring your files to an Xbox (you can only audition your tracks on an Xbox for now), you can now create your own song files for the game. This is a fantastic opportunity to get your songs in front of a huge audience. If you get good at creating these Rockband files, you could even start a business doing it for bands that don’t have the time or know-how. Very cool!
