January 27th, 2010 – Following this week’s unofficial theme of acoustic design, FuzzMeasure Pro was updated to version 3.2 today. FuzzMeasure is a Mac-only acoustic analysis tool that you can use to do anything from measuring the frequency response of your basement studio, to collecting impulse responses of acoustic spaces to be imported into your reverb unit (for example Logic Studio’s Space Designer).
It’s professional grade software that costs a pretty reasonable $150. Unlike legacy systems that required fancy hardware boxes, FuzzMeasure works inside your laptop. Add any omni-directional microphone and you’re good to go. Of course, if you want to add more microphones to the set up, or use super high end measurement microphones, your total investment will go up. However, you can get some pretty decent omni-directional microphones for under a hundred dollars.
If you have access to some nice sounding acoustic spaces, you could even start a little side business by impulse sampling them, and selling the impulses to people who wanted the measurements for their reverb units. Pretty nifty, and very useful. I’m thinking of giving it a try. Have any of you used it before?
Windows users may want to check out ETF, which retails at $150 as well.

Thanks for mentioning about the update. I use it and yes, it’s really worth the buck.
