January 3rd, 2009 – DJ Techtools has a great article about etiquette at gigs. While it’s of course DJ-centric, there is a lot of good advice in there that applies to any gigging musician. While having respect for anyone who’s paying you (the promoter) and your colleagues (they’re not competition) is pretty much a given for anyone with a lick of sense, one thing many musicians fail to understand is that they are in an equal partnership with the audience. You are working together so that everyone has a good time.
When everyone has a good time, you’ll book more gigs. Of course, don’t let the opportunities to add to your mailing list get away. After all, all you need is a thousand true fans.
Speaking of DJing (like that segway?), have you listened to my entry in the Let’s Mix contest yet? Vote it 5 stars please! I’m only a quarter of the votes I need to qualify for stage 1. If you like what you hear, I’ve also uploaded the mix for free download on my Soundcloud page. Spread the word!
