January 31st, 2010 – Usually on the weekend, I post about a DIY project. Well this isn’t so much about a DIY project you can do, but a DIY that I just undertook. One of the benefits of people knowing that I make music, is that when they have an old instrument they don’t want, they give it to me.

Well the brother of one of my friends is moving, and didn’t want an old electric organ that a previous renter left behind. Yesterday I picked it up and it’s in pretty good shape. It’s a Kawai Electro Chord Bass II, which you can get as cheap as $50 on Craigslist. Seems people don’t really like keeping them around which is a shame because it sounds really cool in a lo-fi way.

There are a few connections that are kind of crunchy, so I’ll have to take open it and take a look. It sounds almost exactly like an old SNES game. In fact, we’ve been playing old Super Mario songs on it. It’s hours of entertainment!
