December 15th, 2009 – For the last couple years, Tonium has been pushing its Pacemaker portable DJ system. The Pacemaker is essentially a beefed up MP3 player that allows you to cue up a song and mix it into the currently playing song. It’s a very good looking device, and reviews for it have been good.

One of the strategies that Tonium has used to build the Pacemaker community is allowing users to upload mixes, as well as comment and listen to the mixes of others. That community has evolved into “Let’s Mix”. You don’t have to have a Pacemaker to be involved with the community. You can either create mixes with your own software or turntables, or you can download Tonium’s free mix creation software.

To hype up their launch, Tonium is running a contest that pits you against other members. First prize is:

• Showcase at the 2010 Winter Music Conference in Miami: Flights and flash hotel in Miami with gigs at amongst others the Beatport Pool Party and the DJ Mag opening and closing party at the Shelborne
• Professional PR Management: Ongoing editorial coverage in leading dance and music press, where the winner amongst other things will be get a cover news story in DJ Mag as well as extensive coverage on Beatportal and DJ Sounds
• Post Miami Career launch: A contract with leading DJ management agency as well as the opportunity to release a DJ compilation as well as inclusion in the exclusive Pioneer test DJ group
• Next Generation DJ equipment: A pair of industry standard Pioneer CDJ-2000 decks and a Pacemaker

Sounds pretty good to me, there are good prizes for up to 50th place too. Remember, you don’t have to be a DJ to compete, you just have to create a good mix.
