December 22nd, 2009 – Tis the season as they say, and with only 2 days left to be a good consumer, shopping malls are getting nuts. As we edge closer to Christmas, the amount of holiday music grows increasingly concentrated. When I was a child, I thought this music was fun. Now, it seems like the music is there to remind us to get out and spend money.
In the UK, people fed up with carefully planned marketing around the holidays, interrupted the winning artist from this year’s X-Factor bid to be the fifth straight artist from that show to get the Christmas number one single. The internet campaign to get Rage Against the Machine’s hit “Killing in the Name” to unseat Joe McElderry from the top of the charts, looks to be successful at least for Christmas. He’s still projected to start next year off at number one.
Does holiday music fill you with warm fuzzy feelings, or does it have you heading for the door?
