December 13th, 2009 – This week, Native Instruments will release their X1 MIDI controller. While they have created fantastic sound cards for their flagship DJ application, Traktor, and have supported controllers from many varied manufacturers, they have yet to release their own.

The X1 is actually a supplementary controller, meant to compliment your control record or MIDI controller setup. Out of the box, it controls the various effects and cool parameters that have made Traktor stand out from its competition. DJ Rafik, DMC 2007 champion, is a Native Instruments sponsored DJ, and has shown off on a Traktor set up before. Now, with the impending release of the X1, he shows us how he uses it, along with a Maschine set to trigger cuepoints. He makes it look so simple.

  1. The videos are cool but that because of the DJ Rafik performance. The controller might be a good form factor for DJ’s but it doesn’t seem that special?

  2. @Rupert Brown : Yeah, many of the button keys have already been mapped (and more) on the VCI-100 by the DJ TechTools community.
