– I remember the old days when all video game music was crunchy and the action was side-scrolling. Does that make me old? When most of the big game studios are focusing on games that have the most realistic graphics, I find it refreshing that some smaller game developers are bringing it back old school.

Case in point is Empty Clip Studios. They’ve developed a “3D arcade shooter” very much like Galaga, 1942, and all the other classics. Their game, Symphony, is a little different though. Meant to access your own music library, Symphony uses your tracks to great entire levels. The song determines the level design, the enemies, and even their AI. Pretty swanky stuff, and it looks gorgeous (video embedded below).

I hope they release it on the Mac (or at least an OS agnostic) platform so I can play it. Symphony is slated for release in 2010. I’ll be waiting.
