November 15th, 2009 – Do you like theremins? Would you like to help under-privileged children? Well those two questions may not be as disparate as they might at first seem. Jan van Nuenen has turned an Ikea solar lamp into an optical theremin. Not only that, but when you purchase that specific lamp, Ikea donates another one to a child that needs one to be able to read at night.

So not only do you get to build something cool for yourself, you get to feel good about it too. Jan has posted the information on how to make your own on his website, as well as a video that shows the theremin in action. Pretty neat!
