Blogotheque

November 8th, 2009 – Wow, it’s turning out to be a week for watching awesome music online. First From the Basement, then Bandstand Busking and now Blogotheque.

I had seen a video of Fleet Foxes performing from Blogotheque before, but I had never visited their website. After I posted about Bandstand Busking, Bloodshed linked Blogotheque in the comments. Like From The Basement, Blogotheque gets big artists like Fleet Foxes, REM, Sigur Ros, Bloc Party, and Jason Mraz, as well as lesser-knowns-but-still-awesomes like Malajube and my new hero Kazuki Tomokawa.

Most of the videos are light and whimsical, and yet the Kazuki Tomokawa videos are quite dark. He lives in Osaka where I just got back from, but in the yakuza (Japanese mafia) controlled South that I didn’t visit. Somehow the Blogotheque guys get to film in a brothel. I don’t know how they gained that access, but yakuza are notorious for being violently opposed to film and photographs (for good reason).
