bandstand busking

November 5th, 2009 – In stark contrast to the big name, high gloss website “From The Basement” I linked a couple days ago, “bandstand busking” offers indie artists performing acoustic sets in parks across London.

I, living in the music cocoon that is North America, usually don’t get exposed to new artists across the pond to the East or West, so I wasn’t familiar with most of the artists on the site. However, I discovered some great songs there; for one, “Oats We Sow” by Gregory and the Hawk (embedded below). I like the intimate and whimsical tone of the performances and, although the interviewers obviously aren’t professionals, there are some genuine and colourful moments in the interview segments.

On a somewhat related topic, “We Were Promised Jetpacks” is one of the greatest band names ever.

In the same spirit, you have the “Concerts à emporter” of la Blogotheque, a french music blog.

(There are famous bands like Sigur Ros, Fleet Foxes, Patrick Watson, etc.)

  2. @Bloodshed : I’ve seen the Fleet Foxes video on Vimeo before and had visited the site, but now it looks completely different and there are a lot more artists. Thanks for the link!
