Danny Elfman

– We’re all adults here, but sometimes we still idolize those with talents we wish we had. Well maybe I shouldn’t speak for everyone, but I still idolize, and am in awe of, people with extraordinary talent. I’ll start off the fanboy-ism. I’m a Danny Elfman super fan. I haven’t liked everything he’s done, but he is capable of such a wide range of moods, and orchestrations, it’s ridiculous. Who do you idolize?

  1. Other than the usual pioneers (George Martin, Phil Spector etc), I was a fan-boy of Jeff Lynne for a long long time (The Move, ELO, Wilburys/Beatles etc). That famous “Jeff Lynne snare” (mic/compression technique) and his backing-vocals are copied by many rock producers and engineers to this day. I still am a fan, but these days I’ve been finding other producers I’m enjoying for all the different styles like Brian Eno.

  2. Cool question.

For songwriting, Tom Petty, Tom Waits, Lennon/McCartney, U2

For production, Daniel Lanois, Jimmy Miller, Rick Rubin

There are MORE, but these leap to mind first, so there you go.
