October 20th, 2009 – Bam! New Apple hardware for those of you who are Mac-friendly. There’s an updated iMac, with more power and a wider aspect screen. There’s the new Magic Mouse which replaces the “Mighty Mouse” (which can no longer be called that due to a name dispute), that supports multi-touch gestures. Hopefully the new gestures will allow DAW users to make better use of their mouse. Most people I know are heavily keyboard short-cut dependent.
There’s also a new unibody Macbook. Of course, they did not update the ports, and therefore it lacks Firewire of any kind. I’d still recommend picking up the older Macbook if you can. There should be quite a bit of cost savings now that it’s aesthetically obsolete.

I just got myself a 13″ Macbook Pro in June so I’m not too interested in these new ones.
But those bluetooth keyboards and magic mouse look soo good to me.
I’m always wearing out the buttons on my mice so one with no moving parts might be perfect for me. Saves me modding mine to be touch sensitive. I’d imagine it would be fairly similar to my MBP multitouch pad.
I wonder if it would work on my pc too?

Actually, on both my older Powerbook and my Macbook Pro, I’ve worn off part of the paint on the “N” “V” and “C” keys. I have the wired version of the newer external keyboards (the one that still has the number pad) and I think the paint on that would hold up better.
As for the new Magic Mouse, I’m thinking of getting it as well. My Macbook Pro is the one right before they released multi-touch on them so it would be cool to have gestures available. I’m not sure if the Might Mouse will work multi-touch with a PC unless someone creates a 3rd party driver to support it. Otherwise, the mouse will only have one button in Windows which would suck. I’ve heard the bluetooth keyboards work with Windows machines but it’s prety annoying not to have the number pad (at least to me).
