October 12th, 2009 – Harmonic mixing is the concept of taking into account the key of songs when mixing them together in a DJ set. You’d think that this would be a common thing to do, but listening to many mixes, this is simply not the case. Normally, it’s considered a more advanced technique since it limits what songs you can play (to only appropriate ones in my opinion).
When everyone was spinning records, figuring out and labeling all your vinyl was a daunting task. Nowadays, digital DJs, have it much easier with software that will automagically determine the BPM and pitch, and then tag the digital file with that information. MixShare’s Rapid Evolution is a free software title for the PC platform that will analyze your music collection including key information.
No more having to sit by a piano and figure out the key to your music library, there’s software for that now.
