October 21st, 2009 - 8bitpeoples just released the Arduinoboy Mini which shrinks down the Arduinoboy mod into a tiny form factor. Basically it allows you to directly control the sound chip on a Gameboy using MIDI.

As a musician, I want to play sounds live, not program them. This is not to disparage those who use trackers, but it’s just not my thing. This is largely why I’ve chosen to use chip emulation VST’s rather than the actual chips. That being said, I prefer the sound of the real thing, and with the mods like the Arduinoboy, you can literally play the Gameboy as a synth.

For some crazy reason, they only released 10 and by the time I visited the page, they were all sold out. They were priced at $110 which is awesome value especially if you already have a Gameboy. Release more 8bitpeoples! I’ll be the first in line. Why only 10…WHYYYYYY?!?!
