September 8th, 2009 – The Roland TR-808 houses some of the most recognizable sounds in modern music. Reaching iconic status in both the hip hop and electronic world, it is a highly sought after drum machine. Of course, since it was released in 1980 it’s not easy to find one in good condition if you can find one at all.
Acidlab has created a cloned 808 called Miami so we can all have one. Using the original parts when possible, and improving on the functionality of the original 808 design, the Miami could almost be an 808 upgrade straight from Roland. Check out the sound samples of it here. That’s one beefy kick!
The Miami is priced at 800 Euros plus shipping, which seems expensive until you realize that TR-808′s are listing on Ebay right now at over 2 grand.
