July 23, 2009 – Have you ever had a tune stuck in your head? Or even worse, a fragment of one? There could be many reasons for why it happened, but the bottom line is that it’s rare that it goes away itself. Scientists whimsically refer to it as an ear worm. James Kellaris, a professor from the University of Cincinnati, suggests listening to complex music or something that lacks a hook. Supposedly this will reset the ear worm.
If that doesn’t work, you could try listening to the tune in its entirety. If the reason you remember the loop is because you don’t know what happens next, listening to the song could solve that desire to finish the song. In modern radio-friendly music where the hook is king, ear worms are everywhere and infectious. Get yourself innoculated with some DJ Krush stat!

It’s funny, I can “listen” to almost anything I want from memory. So when something like that happen, I only have to think about something else.
Playing it can help too
