June 11th, 2009 – Here’s an interesting story: MusicRadar reports that a criminal ring is using online music stores such as iTunes, and Amazon, to make money off of fake credit cards. Apparently, they used the music service, TuneCore, to push out a compilation of music to the various services. They then used scammed credit cards to buy the music back.
I’ve heard of fake credit cards being used for buying stuff, but never for actual cash to be taken back. Pretty clever and pretty illegal. Estimates of their haul number in the 400,000 pound range. First scammed iTunes cards, now this, thieves are getting pretty creative with technology.
