June 26th, 2009City and Colour is Dallas Green’s (of Alexisonfire fame) solo project. In stark contrast to the post-hardcore assault that is Alexisonfire, City and Colour features singer-songwriter acoustic balladeering.

I’m not particularly a fan of screaming in music, so I have to be in a certain type of mood to listen to Alexisonfire, but when I do, I enjoy the melodic counterpoint Dallas Green brings to George Pettit’s screaming. City and Colour brings Dallas’ soaring melodies to a more tame and accessible range for your aural consumption.

City and Colour currently has two albums out, of which 2005′s “Sometimes” is my favorite. Often, Dallas uses interesting guitar tunings to get his distinctive open sound. Usually he plays with the 5th and 6th strings open which brings a drone that ties his sound together. His music is polarizing: either you really like it, or you think it’s boring. I fall into the former camp. Below, I’ve embedded one of my favorite tracks of his, as well as one of my favorite Alexisonfire songs.
