May 19th, 2009 – Following yesterday’s post about the DIY headphone amp, today’s post is about how to make your own condenser microphone for about 20 dollars in parts. While you can get condensers for reasonable prices these days, some even hovering around a hundred dollars, good ones are out of reach of a lot of enthusiasts.
ProSoundWeb has an article, now archived on archive.org, that has step-by-step instructions for making your own condenser microphone. The steps look pretty simple and, unlike the DIY headphone amplifier, don’t scare me. The microphones themselves are pretty tiny. They are much smaller than the XLR connectors that they are attached to.
For 20 dollars per microphone, you can’t not (yay for double negatives) afford to build a whole wackload of them. There’s a video below of the process so you can decide if you want to do it.
