April 14th, 2009 – It’s springtime and while nature turns to creating, or procreating, the remix contests get more plentiful. I’ve posted before about Indaba Music, and lately they’ve been landing a lot of great remix opportunities now that their community is picking up steam.
One of the main criticisms that I leveled against Indaba Music, and I’m sure I was not alone, was that requiring a voting system to have your music even listened to by the judges was not always condusive to the best remix being chosen. I’m sure that this system was created with the best of intentions, but people always scam (and spam) such things.
Previously, Indaba Music contests went something like this: you upload your song, people spam you to get votes, they rank higher than you which infuriates you, spammers who have good remixes make it into the top ten (although countless others with fantastic remixes who don’t spam, don’t), the judges only listen to the top ten and choose from there.
That was before, and Indaba seems to have remedied the situation. For the recent contests I’ve checked out, you can still vote for your favorite remix, but the judges will decide a winner from all entries. They’re hosting their first MC competition rather than the remixes that they’re known for, by Canadian artist Classified. So if any of you are aspiring rappers, that’s a great opportunity…even if the cash prize is only $500 in Canadian currency.
There are lots of great contests open right now. It’s great practice; get on it!

Thanks for the info … I was wondering how they voted and I’m glad to see they listen to all submisions now.
