March 8th, 2009 – I’ve posted before about using video game music controllers as real music controllers, and now Zivix wants to provide gamers with real guitars that can also serve as video game controllers. Lost yet?
Zivix is planning to embed their sensor technology into real guitars, so that the guitar you practice “Smoke on the Water” on in real life, can then be plugged into your Playstation3 and played in Guitar Hero 9 or whatever iteration is out at the time.
I’m more interested in how enterprising individuals will hack the MIDI information being output by the guitar into controlling weird effects, allowing industrious guitarists to take their performance to the next level. Imagine using onboard gyro sensors to control filter effects or phasers. Once the Zivix guitar is released, I’m sure it won’t be long.
