March 5th, 2009 – This is what you find if you google (yes, I just used Google as a verb), “interesting musical instruments”. I’m not sure to be scared or fascinated by Reed Ghazala‘s Video Octavox. Essentially, the telephone chords house tips with photo light sensors and a suction cup. The device itself is sitting on an antique television in that picture.

What you’re supposed to do is fasten the suction cups to different parts of the screen, and the photo sensors will start firing when the display is on. The “brains” of the device then use that information to control synthesizers. Check out the link below to hear what it sounds like. It looks like the mutant lovechild of Steampunk and anime aesthetics. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep soundly tonight.
