March 21st, 2009 – After yesterday’s post about MixTape.me, I decided to try actually making a few playlists. Getting use to the interface is no problem as it functions as one would expect. The only gripe I have with the UI is that if you want to drag and sort your list, you have to drag the song by the number. If you drag it anywhere else, it looks like it’s been dragged, but when you release the click, it doesn’t place the file. It took me a while to figure that out.
Unlike I had assumed, you cannot add your own music (unless it is hosted on a URL), most of the music comes from Seeqpod, so you can only search and add music that’s there. I suppose MixTape.me is more like a music aggregator than an online streaming music server. As such, the music you can find is somewhat limited, and, at least in my experience, a lot of tracks that listed after a search were not actually there and MixTape.me tried to play the next track. When there weren’t any tracks that were actually playable, the site cycled between what it thought were playable songs infinitely (or it would have had I not forced it to search for other songs; pressing pause did not stop it).
Below are a couple playlists I put together with the music that was available. One’s a down-tempo hip hop list, while the other is a more rock oriented one.
