February 18th, 2009 – There is perhaps no other instrument that is so identifiable for use in soundtracks, as the theremin. As soon as you hear it, you expect to be watching a black and white, campy, martian movie from the 1950′s. That’s a powerful tool in your songwriting arsenal. Plus, they sound cool.
Following the Beep-it optical theremin and the Mini 4 Airheads digital theremin, is a Mini-Theremin kit from MakerShed. It looks like a pretty simple kit, and it’s only $30. Just think of the soundtracks I could colour it with! Well maybe I won’t get much soundtrack work for mid-20th century space movies, but I still want it anyways.
