December 11th, 2008 – These days I don’t really enjoy Top 40 radio, as listening to Akon and TI repeatedly during my car ride to and from work gets tiresome. If I do listen to the radio, it’s usually the CBC. For Americans out there, CBC is like NPR, and for Brits, it’s like the news talk-show part of the BBC. If I listen to shows about science and philosophy, does that make me an old fuddy duddy?
Anyways, many radio stations broadcast on the internet and RadioBeta is a site that aggregates all of them in one place. This is great for those who want to sample the wares of other countries. You can search by region, or genre. One thing to pay attention to is that RadioBeta uses the Real Player format so you’ll need to download the appropriate codecs. It’s a pretty nifty resource for finding new music; you might find songs you’ve never heard of from radio stations you’ve never been close to. I’m especially interested in hearing some music out of Sweden or Norway; I may just hear the new Ace of Base. Actually, I’m not sure if that idea excites or terrifies me.
