October 31st, 2008 – Today marks the 150th consecutive daily post here at Key of Grey and it’s also Hallowe’en. Coincidence? Well, yeah. In celebration of this occasion (the 150th post, not Hallowe’en) I am releasing the soundtrack to “Leaps and Bounds“, a film I scored, for free download at 128kps quality on my new Bandcamp.mu page. If you want to download it at higher quality, it’s a dollar per track, or only five dollars for all 27 songs at the highest quality. Of course, if you want to throw a couple extra bucks my way you are more than free to.
Here’s some background on the movie. “Leaps and Bounds” is a movie that examines the history of bike trials through interviews with biking legends and prodigies. My friend Desmond Lee, a pro rider in his own right, completely financed this movie (along with performing every other function other than the music), going nearly broke traveling the world and capturing the stories on film. His plan was to film without sponsorship so that the story wasn’t influenced by any business. He is not a wealthy man by any means. In fact, he pretty much had to subsist on Top Ramen to live. This passion is what convinced me that this was a worthwhile project to work on, deferring almost all of my normal fee.
I wrote 27 songs for the film, of which almost all were used. The songs were written over the period of a year and when I listen to the soundtrack now, I’m actually able to hear my composing style change and skills improve, which is pretty darn cool (to me anyways). Unfortunately, the album is not arranged in chronological composing order, but try to pick out which songs sound more sophisticated and better engineered. If you like the music and are interested at all in biking, I highly recommend checking out the film. The DVD is available for purchase directly from his website and is region unlocked.
Oh, and Happy Hallowe’en to all!

Nice, free music is good.
Trials is hard.

Remind me to give you 5 dollars because your music deserves payment.
