September 6th, 2008 – OpenStomp has released the Coyote-1, a fully documented, open-source guitar pedal. Along with the knobs and switches, your $350 gets you an LCD read-out, and a Propeller processor. Via ethernet or mini-USB, you’re able to interface with the Coyote-1 from your computer, to make your own effects.

It’s an interesting concept and as much as I like to tinker with my gear to create different sounds, I’m more of a hands on, solder-your-own-stuff, type of tinkerer. I don’t really have the patience to program my own sounds on the Coyote-1 but I’d be excited to download patches that other owners shared. Still, at $350 I’m going to hold off and see what the community does with it first. What about you?

agreed, i’m not much of a “digital programming tinkerer” myself and $350 is steep if i don’t know what kinds of sounds this thing can produce. great idea though, and i’m sure there are lots of people out there who will love it.
