August 19th, 2008 - Lately I’ve been on a total chiptunes kick. While I’m not hardcore into music completely made with 8-bit systems, I am interested in stuff that uses it as an instrument in a larger production. I’m drawn to the techniques and the ideas of chiptunes artists so imagine my delight when I had the opportunity to watch a documentary on the artists behind the music I’ve been listening to lately. “Reformat the Planet” documents the NY “scene”, it’s players, how it formed, and its influence on the rest of the world’s 8-bit artists. For a very limited time (I believe it’s only a week), it’s showing on Pitchfork TV for free. Whether you love chiptunes or are simply interested in finding out what it’s all about, I highly recommend checking it out while you can.
