June 28th, 2008 – Video games like Rockband and Guitar Hero have introduced musicianship to a whole new generation of lazy children (and lazy young adults). Sure playing guitar on Guitar Hero is nothing like playing guitar in real life, but they at least get people to think, “I wonder how hard it is to play guitar in real life?”. If one person is inspired to really pick up an instrument from fake video game instruments, I think that the games will have done a world of good. I myself love playing the drums in Rockband because these days I live in a small apartment and can’t have a real drumset. The drums in that game are so close to playing real drums (in Expert mode), that it makes me pine for a real drumset again. Have you been inspired by games like Rockband or Guitar Hero?
