June 7th, 2008 – The Nintendo DS Lite is a great tool for electronic musicians. Multitudes of people use home-brew applications to create music on the go; I personally use Electroplankton to get cool sounds. Think about it, the DS is a perfect size to carry around. What better way to whet your appetite for music on-the-go?

Now Korg has adapted their MS-10 synthesizer to the DS platform as the Korg DS-10. You use your touchscreen to manipulate patterns and you wire the connections to make the sounds. Honestly, the demo sounds that I’ve heard aren’t that robust, but I’ll reserve judgment until I get my copy. Unfortunately, it’s a Japan-only release, although I’m sure you’ll be able to get it from importers.

I”m hoping there’s english menus so that it’s import friendly. I’m no e-musician but it’d be fun to play around with or quickly jotting down a melody from random jolts of inspiration

  2. I do my music writing on-the-go with Wario Ware Twisted, but it has some serious flaws (ie. sucking ass ) so I think an upgrade is in order. Could be useful for jotting down melodies, though I currently do that by recording my powerful singing.

  3. Actually, you know what’s good for inspiration on the DS? Jam Sessions…call me crazy but it’s great to have guitar sounds in such a portable package, no matter how basic they are.
